My fieldwork at Sendero Therapies as an OTA student was such a positive and rewarding experience. From the moment I started, everyone was welcoming and friendly. My Clinical Instructor was incredibly supportive, patiently addressing every question and concern I had along the way. This collaborative environment made me feel truly comfortable and significantly boosted my confidence as I transitioned into my new role within the school setting.
I had the chance to work not only with children but also with other therapy professionals and teachers across the district. Being able to see occupational therapy in action with students from pre-K all the way through high school gave me a unique perspective on how therapy supports kids at every stage of their education.
One of the things I appreciated most was the freedom to be creative and try my own ideas in therapy sessions. I was encouraged to fully be myself as a developing therapist, which really helped me envision the kind of COTA I want to be in the future.
Along the way, I also learned important skills like documenting sessions, navigating therapy programs, and even sitting in on IEP meetings. These experiences gave me practical tools and the confidence to work as part of a professional team.
Overall, the most valuable takeaway from my time at Sendero is discovering just how much I enjoy pediatric occupational therapy. This experience confirmed my passion for working with children and strengthened my commitment to pursuing a career helping them grow and succeed to their fullest potential.
